Who Won Nepal vs. Scotland Today? Match Result, Highlights, and Final Scorecard

Who Won Nepal vs. Scotland Today? Match Result, Highlights, and Final Scorecard

The Wankhede Stadium has been the source of history. Power-hitting and death-overs under the clinical demonstration, Nepal crushed Scotland by 7 wickets in their last game of the ICC Men Extreme Cricket Twenty World Cup 2026 in Group C. It is the biggest defeat in the history of the Rhinos and the first time in 12 years they won the T20 world cup as they won the match in 2014.

Although the game did not affect the qualification of the Super 8 with England and West Indies already taking steps to do that, it was a huge message of the emerging cricking Nepal.

Nepal vs. Scotland: Match Summary and Final Result

Toss: Nepal won the toss and elected to bowl

Scotland Score: 170/7 (20 Overs)

Nepal Score: 171/3 (19.2 Overs)

Result: Nepal won by 7 wickets (with 4 balls to spare)

Player of the Match: Dipendra Singh Airee (50* off 23 balls)

First Innings: Michael Jones Sets the Stage, Sompal Kami Pulls it Back

Scotland started the evening with intent. Full-time openers Michael Jones and George Munsey took the opportunity to get on the batting friendly deck at Wankhede to race to 52/0 during the powerplay. Jones was especially aggressive, canceling 71 off of only 45 balls and he had eight boundaries and three mammoth sixes.

Scotland was 131/1, 15 overs later, and it was likely that they would go beyond the 190 runs. But the tide turned significantly during the 16 th over. Greybeard bowler Sompal Kami had created a masterpiece of death bowling, and castled Michael Jones before taking a spectacular return catch one handed, with just two balls to spare to dispose of Brandon McMullen (25).

In the remaining 5 overs Nepal bowlers added the screws and allowed the visiting team no more than 39 runs taking along six wickets. Nandan Yadav (2/34) and Sompal Kami (3/25) made sure that Scotland competed with 170/7 which was a competitive score, yet they felt Scotland was 15-20 short of this with the start they got.

The Run Chase The Historic Pursuit at Wankhede

The quest by Nepal started on a strong background. Kushal Bhurtel (43 off 35) and Aasif Sheikh (33 off 27) combine to establish an opening partnership of 74 making a silence to their attack on the Scottish side and regulating the required rate.

Scotland, however, had a threat to the party in its Michael Leask. In rapid succession he struck the openers and captain Rohit Paudel (16) to leave Nepal in shambles at 98/3. The world stage pressure started to take its toll but Dipendra Singh Airee had other intentions.

Airee Special: 23 Balls to Glory

Nepalese fans call him often as The Finisher, Dipendra Singh Airee came in and instantly changed the tide around and put the pressure back on Scotland. He unleashed a calculated attack on both the spinners and the seamers, who happened to strike back-to-back sixes in the 16 th over, and took down the equation.

It took Airee only 23 balls to break his 50th century, and he still has not broken it. He had in Gulsan Jha a partner capable of giving a cameo that was fearless 24 off 17 balls. Combining, they made an unbroken 73 run partnership in the fourth wicket that led Nepal to the target four balls ahead of schedule.

Match Highlights: Key Moments

  • The Powerplay Surge:  Scotland opened with a wallop on the new ball and it appears that Nepal chose to open the first in the match making it look unsafe in the beginning.
  • Sompal Kami’s Double Strike: The 16 th over by Sompal Kami shifted the momentum of the game: Kami left both set batters (Jones and McMullen) without batting.
  • The Opening Stand: A 74-run association between Bhurtel and Sheikh gave the middle order the leeway to calm down.
  • The Finishing Boundary: Gulsan Jha smashed the game with a First Ball Boundary in the last over, and all fans, who were present in the stadium (19 000+), went crazy.

Stakeholder Nepal Why this Win is So Important

This does not change the scorecard however, but its justification of the course of development of cricket in Nepal. Having lost three times in a row throughout the previous rounds of the tournament, the team demonstrated a strength of character to turn around and beat a team such as Scotland that had been in the tournament since long. The win is the optimal end to a World Cup quest and a shot in the arm as they move on to other ICC rounds.

This goes a long way with us as a team, Nepal captain Rohit Paudel said. It was a good idea to limit them to 170 after their start. Dipendra and Gulsan performed as expected of them to-night, and we take it well to our departure.

Would you have me to analyze the final Group C standings or would you like to know more about the T20 career of Dipendra Singh Airee?

Great analysis! I think the toss will be crucial. If India bats first and puts up 300+, it's game over for NZ.

Don't underestimate the Black Caps! We've won in India before. Williamson's leadership will make the difference.
